description

Located in the heart of campus, the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts is the region’s premier destination for fine and performing arts. The new facility greatly enhances the ability to provide state-of-the-art space for presentations, performances, exhibitions, and a wide range of special events and cultural activities.

ACI Boland Architects and their design partners facilitated an intensive design program that was guided by a select steering committee of educators, students, and staff. Meetings were held over several days on campus where each phase of the design process was deliberated and explored. Design concepts were shared with the general student body so the design team could get feedback and take input back to the steering committee for inclusion in the design process.

The intensive design approach assured stakeholder acceptance of the decisions, advanced the process at a deliberate pace, and cultivated a dynamic exchange of ideas. Students, faculty, and staff were excited to be included in the journey and ecstatic with the final product at the end of the design process.

The facility features a performance hall, theater, art gallery, and state-of-the-art technology. It also boasts a grand entrance lobby, workspace for an artist-in-residence, a private reception room, multi-use rehearsal space for large musical groups, costume shop, scene shop, dressing rooms, and various other technical and support spaces. Future phases call for a garden courtyard/reception area on the south side of the building.
