Walking Track with Patient Lift

Healing Garden with Multiple Terrains

description

As an expansion of Saint Luke’s existing rehabilitation services, this facility brings unprecedented robotic technology and rehabilitation services to the Kansas City Metro. Natural light brightens the entire inpatient therapy gym with a two-story volume surrounded by windows along the east side of the building. To support the Institute’s goal of preparing patients to live independently, the therapy gym has unique equipment that simulates situations and challenges that patients will encounter when they go home. The state-of-the-art equipment includes a 100-foot-long walking track with a patient lift, a hydrotherapy tank, and therapy kitchen and laundry.

Apartment rooms equipped with a private restroom, kitchenette, and bedroom furniture on each floor are used as a therapy space to prepare patients who are getting ready to go home. An outdoor healing garden adjacent to the gym has a putting green, raised flower beds for gardening therapy, and pathways with multiple terrain types that allow patients to practice walking on different surfaces that they will encounter in the real world.
